Answers to questions we are sometimes asked.
How do I get to PJ's Place from the airport and how far is it?
We will collect you from the airport ourselves. We include this service
with our compliments. The journey usually takes just 10 minutes.
What is the easiest way to travel around in Chiang Mai?
The easiest way
to get around is by tuktuk. You can catch a tuktuk at the rank in front
of central shopping mall which is less than 5 minutes walk although often
a tuktuk will stop to offer a lift before you get to the mall. You
should always check the price before accepting a ride which should usually
be 60-80 Baht per trip within the city.
The next most common form of
transport is the Songtaew which acts like a minibus and will usually
take you close to your destination but not usually door to door. These
are also readily available as with the tuktuks and usually cost less at 20 to 30
Baht per person depending on the distance.
How far is PJ's
Place from the Night Bazaar?
The Night Bazaar is on the
opposite side of the city about 2 miles from PJ's Place and takes about
10 minutes by tuktuk depending on traffic.
What can you tell me
about
the old city?
The old city stands inside the moat which is
roughly square and each side is approximately 1½
miles long. Depending on where in the old city you were going, it would
take from 5 to 10 minutes to reach by tuktuk however for anyone who
enjoys seeing the old city on foot, a pleasurable time can easily be
spent exploring the many temples, shops and cafes on foot.
When is the rainy season?
The rainy season (sometimes
called the "Green Season") begins around May/June and ends around
Sept/Oct. In the early part of the season, showers which are usually
infrequent are generally short and light usually occurring in the late
afternoon or early evening whilst towards the end of the season when the
highest rainfall is experienced, showers are often "tropical" heavy
showers but lasting
only an hour or so. Rain for days on end is rare. You won't need a
raincoat just a small umbrella is sufficient.
I heard it gets cold at night in the cold season. Do I need a coat?
In the city, the temperature at night can drop to around 15°C
so if you are planning to sit at one of the outdoor bars, you should
take a sweater or similar item. Outside the city in the surrounding
countryside, the temperature can fall as low as 5°C at night so
if you were planning to overnight at somewhere like Pai for instance,
you would need to take warm jackets and maybe scarves or mufflers with
you.
I
heard 3 days is enough so see everything. Is that correct?
Chiang Mai has lots to see and do for everyone whether they are an
active adventurous type of person who enjoys the great outdoors or one
who prefers the calm and tranquility of temples, museums and exquisite
tropical gardens. Anyone
arriving and staying for only three days will quickly realize that next time
they visit Chiang Mai, they will need to stay much longer!
Can PJ's Place arrange
tours for me?
Yes, PJ's Place also
operates PJ's Tours. We can arrange all your local sightseeing either
based on the tour programs outlined in the tour program pages in our
website or on a totally bespoke basis. We operate the tours ourselves
privately but also use specialist companies for such activities as white
water rafting etc.
